CHAMPION OF t PAIRS COMPETITION. The Christchurch Centre's Champion "of Champions games commenced oil Saturday afternoon,- when two rounds of the pairs wero played. The greens used were Christchurch and Barrington, both of which were | in excellent* order, and playing fast and true. Although the weather was beautifully fine, a slight breeze ,at times made play a. littie difficult, but nevertheless excellent games were witnessed. It cannot, however, be said that there' was anything outstanding in the play, although there were several close finishes. The following were the players and results :— ; / CHRISTCHURCH GREEN. CANTERBURY V. WEST END, - TIMARU. The return match betweet tho Canterbury Club and West End, Tijnaru, took j.laoe during tho Veek-ond on the Canterbury green; The weather was all that could, be desired, apart from a gusty wind, and tho green was in excellent condition. The contest i» an eight-rink one, and on this /occasion a foam of colts also made the journey and met a like team from Canterbury. Before commencing play Mr .W. Ives, on behalf of his welcomed the visitors, and expressed the- wish that the game woulji be a good and close one. Naturally his club was anxious to retain the trophy, but if. tbe visitors" showed superior pUy he would be the first to' congratulate them and hand the trophy over. It was a game they always looked forward to. and be was sure it.had been the means of-making many friendships ami cementing others.
