GISBORNE, February 20. Eastwood Hill, the residence of Mr W. D. Cook, situated in beautiful grounds which formed one of r the- show places of the district, was destrdyed by fire. A valuable collection of curios was lost. The house was insured for £I6OO and the contents for £2260 in j the Phoenix office.

(rsxss ASSOCIATION TXLSOBfrH.) BLENHEIM, February 20. ■ Early this morning a seven-Toomed dwelling owned and occupied S. E. Brown was badly gutted by fire. The cause is ■ said to . be. from, an electric iron which was left switched on at of the premisesused as ii; laundry, and a (considerable amount of linen belonging to three hotels and private owners was destroyed. The house is insured for £6OO in the State office, and the contents for £3OO in the British Traders office. A five-roomed dwelling owned by J. J. Deboo, and occupied by T. H. CaV craft at Riverlands, was destroyed by fire. beyond the ; borough'{ boundary there were no fire : flghtiag appliances. The insurances were £§oo on the house and £IOO on the' furniture and effects in the Victoria office. ,
