DAY OF PRAYER.
The women's "Day of Prayer" for missions, held in Christchurch yesterday in the Durham strett Schoolroom, was part of a world-wide movement that is growing annually. Every session was well attended, busy women setting aside household duties for the time being in order to be present. All churches were represented. In the morning the services were devotional in character, so that everyone, could take part. In the afternoon the different women's missionary societies each took a session, telling of the work in its own particular fields. Miss Inglis, of the L.M.S. mission, gave a most interesting talk on the position of the women of Southern India. Similar meetings were held in Auck-' land, Wellington, and Dunedin. PARTY AT LEVIN. A pleasant gathering took place at Levin, at tho residence of Mrs Devine, who, with Mrs Middlemiss, arranged a "gift" evening party in honour of Mr A. J. W. Hodder and Miss B. Parlane, of Christchurch, who are to bo married. There was a large attendance of friends, and a happy time was spent wittf games, music, cards, and dancing. The gifts were in the form of tinned goods, of which there was a goodly supply. Mr Hodder, Bpeaking for himself and his fiancee, thanked the guests for their generosity, and Mr H. E. Keys thanked the hostesses for their hospitality. Songs were sung by Miss Meyers, Mr Hodder, and Mr Duguid. The pianists were Mr H. L. Jenkins, and Mr H. Varnham. COMING-OF-AGE PARTIES. * Many friends gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs H. Allen, Barton street, Woolston, to celebrate the coming of age of their youngest son, Robert. Games, competitions, and dancing were enjoyed, and at supper time Mr R. Campbell proposed tjie toast of the guest, and presented him with the customary key. Among those present -were Mr and Mrs H. Allen, Mr and Mrs Smith, Mesdames P. F. Campbell, H. C. Campbell, R. Smith. C. W. Claxton, and A. Dowling, Misses E. Savage, R. Savage, B. Savage. R. Claxton, b. Claxton. G. Mitchell. N.* Allen, and Wakely, and Messrs R. Allen, It. Campbell, C. Tindell. L. Kirton, IX Kerr. L. Ashton, and R, Smith. A pleasant evening was spent at the residence of Mr J. Messiter, when a party was givin in honour of the twenty-first birthday of Reginald, eldest son of Mr and Mrs B. Crew. Many toasts were including that of Mian Peggy Smart, whose birthday fell on the same day. Music for dancing was supplied by Messrs B. Rogers and L. Smart. Items were given by Mr Messiter, Misses Jackson, Rodgers, and Smart, and a speciality 4ance by Miss Vera Mikkelson and Mr B. Crew. -The guest of honour was presented with a key by Mr Messiter, ! and a gentleman's companion from nis i Pa Among those present were Mesdames Crew, Htervey, Hunt, Smart, Miss» Johnson, Jackson, Mijckelson, Hunt, Smart (8), Harvey, Crew (2), Rodgers ; Messrs Crew (4), Smart (3), Lowrey, Brnnsdon, Shaw, Rogers, and Collins.
