MANAGEMENT OF RAILWAYS.

INDEPENDENT URGED. The General Committee of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association decided yesterday afternoon, without discussion, to support the following resolution from the Manawatn and West Coast Agricultural and Pastoral Association:— "That in view of the very serious and contiuually increasing losses made by the Bailway Department the Government be urged to give effect to the recommendation of the Commission that the management of the railways should be removed from political control and handed over to an independent board of directors. Furthor, that this resolution be conveyed to the Acting-Prime Minister and circulated amongst Farmers' Unions, A. and P. Associations, County Councils, and Chambers of Commerce with a request that they should affirm same and make their own representations to the Government in support hereof."
