WAIMAIBI. The monthly meeting of th« Waimairi County Council was held last evening. Pre* sent: Cra. C. E. Cross (ohairm&n), W. J. Walter, J. Cleland, F, 8. Scott, C. W. Mcore, W. G, Chapman, G. Gardner, •J. lagging, T. O. .Newnham, and W. i*. Spencer. It was decided that tenders be called for tho bituminous sealing of Marshland road railway crossing according to the specification ot the Highways Board. , In regard to the a'ealing of New- Brighton', road, it was decided to write thq -Highway* Hoard asking ■ them to reconsider?"their rafusal to consent to the sealing Mew Brighton road, in' view 'of the xovEte being used for trolley-buses. It was also decided to- jtsk Messrs Hawke, Kyle, and Sullivan, M.P.'s, to' support the request. The electrical engineer reported that he bad inet; the general, manager of tla -MJ2.D. in "regard to tho anpply -of -power to the Diainage Board's pomp at Barker's road. He was of the opinion that power could not be supplied any cheaper- from the j AI.E.D. than from the county's - lines. The engineer reported that he h<fd measured up the' line and estimated the cost at £lls. It was decided to place a lamp over the. centre oi the'Fendalton bridge and one-over the intersection of Fendalton and Park roftds. Mr. J. D.. Stewart wrote-stating that lie was prepared' to contribute up to,. 457 lta towards the .cost of Stewart'aGully drain-. The Oxford Sports Association wag given permission tc hold a road race at 3.30 p.m. on Saturday, December 13th. MOUNT HERBERT. The monthly meeting of Mount Herbert County Council was held in the Council Chambers, Purau. Present: Messrs A. R. H. Gardiner, R. Gebbie, R. A. Anderson, C. Pope, and J. W. Guy. Correspondence was received from the Public Works Department offering £2 for £1 subsidy on suitable work for the unemployed up to the end of January next. The Council regretted that they were unable to avail themselves of the offer, as the work now in hand will absorb all the available funds for the present financial year. The secretory. of the St. John Ambulance Association wrote asking the Council to receive a deputation -with a view to financial support." TBe Council, whilst sympathising with the good work done by the Association, regretted that they are unable to give a donation at' the present time. The Eltham Borough Council forwarded a scheme-for the relief of the unemployed by settling men on the poorer land of the North Island. The Council considered that the scheme was one. that the .Government might undertake The clerk was instructed to give notice to all persons having noxious weeds growing on their frontages to clear them without delay. ■■■■.'
