THE SQUARE.
PROPOSED TRAMWAY SHELTERS. MOTION TO RESCIND COUNCIL'S RESOLUTION. Within tho next day or two Cr. A. A. McLachlan intends to lodgo a notice of motion proposing the of the resolution arrived at by the City Council at its meeting on Monday night to erect two small shelters in Cathedral square to replace the existing shelter. Cr. McLachlan's motion will come up for discussion at the meetol' tin; Council to be held on the -2nd inst,.
Referring to the matter, Cr. McLaeh lan told a reporter yesterday that he thought that such an important ques* Lion ought to have been decided by a ui etin" of tiie Council as near full strength as possible. The present arrangements ought not to be upset until the question of one-way traffic for trams and all vehicles has received greater consideration. There was still the risk, in his opinion, that the Council would be placing on the highway buildings that within a comparatively short period might become at least a nuisance, and if and when they did so it would lie competent for any citizen to apply to the Court, as was done in respect of the existing shelter, for an injunction.
