PERSONAL. (SPECIAL TO U'HK I-EESS.) G ItKY M OUIH, December 9 The engagement is announced of Miss Lisle Ruth Warren, of Reefton to Mr James Rimmcr, of Greymouth' second son of Mr and Mrs J. Rimmer' of Sydenham, Oliristchurch. ' Mrs Laws (England) is spending an extended holiday with her son-in-law and daughter, the Rev. A. K. and Mrs Warren, Ilarihari. Nurse Malono, of the staff of the Greymouth Hospital, left to-day for Southland, on. annual leave. Miss K. Galbraith (Ghristchureb), who has been spending a holiday with relatives in Greymouth, returned today. Wedding. The wedding took plaee at Sc. Paul's Church, Ross, yesterday, the Rev. A. K. Warren officiating, of Phyllis, eldest daughter of Air and Mrs A. Deacon, Ross, to Mr (J. James, of Hokitika. Tho brido wore an ankle length frock nf ivory-einbcsscd georgette, with eapc collar and long tight-fitting sleeves. Ilor lieautifiilly embroidered veil, which formed a train, was arranged fanwise ou trw head with orangu blossom buds at tho sides. lfor bouquet was of palo pink and white blossoms. Miss Alys ]>eaeon, as bridesmaid, wore a dainty frock of floral georgette, with capo cellar. Her hat, of capolin straw, matched her frock, and she wore green sucdo shoes, and stockings to tone. Iler Ixmc|iiet was of lemon and white carnations. The best man was Mr J. Mcintosh, Ib'kitika. A reception was afterwards heir] at ihe residence of tho bride's parents, tho bride's motlier wearing a frock of na\y eelaneM}, •with hat io tone. She carried a bouquet of red roses. Mr and Mrs James loft later by car, on their wedding trip, tho bride wearing a bottle green eelan-e:-e juniper suit, with flecked twec<f coat, and texjuo to match. Obituary. The death occurred suddenly, at (?: uslunglon, yesterday, of one of tho o'liest residents of Ih<s district, Mr Thomas Morrkson, at tho age of 86. He arrived at Orcymotith with bis father, Mr John Morrison, from Melbourne, at flu- end of IS')"), and followed the gold diggings, finally settling in Reefton, wlie.ro lie married, 110 is survived by two tioiiK and I lireo daughters. Tho search for ICrnest Mansfield fiurr, who has been missing from bis bt>mo at Marsdor since \ov<'inber Sth, has been suspended mdeliuitely by tho (nrlice. Tho surrounding country was thoroughly explored by the search parties, but no trace of the missing man was discovered. Otira Tunnel. The amount of real, timber, and other goods railed from tho West Coast through the Otira tunnel last iveek was 10,099 tons, compared with 12,801 tons in tho corresponding week last year, and J 1,201 tons in 1928. Hospital Board. Tho Westlanrl Hospital Board met last evening. Present: Messrs «T. J. Breeze (chairman), <>. Davidson, R. Meharrv, W. Jeffries, 11. Wells, W. Evenden, and IX. Kceiian. Seven applications were received for tho position of senior sister at the Hospital, and it ivas resolved that Sister A. W. McLeod (Otaki) be appointed to the position. Tho Minister for Health wrote relative to the proposed residence at Watarua for a doctor, stating that enquiries were proceeding to ascertain whether the settlers eoubl find the £SOO voluntary contribution. Mr Thomas Nolan, Matainui, wrote asking that the section transferred to the Board for tho doctor's residence be transferred back, owing to the Board failing to erect the doctor's residence. The request was granted. Cricket TeamMr O. T. liix (Christchurch) has advised the West Coast Cricket Association that ho will bo bringing a team to the West Coast during tho holiday period, and has asked that a match be arranged for Saturday, December 27th. It was intended to play at Hokitika on tho day following tho match at Greymouth. Arrangements are being made to play the visiting team on the date suggested. Jockey Club. The Westland Jockey Club met last evening. Present: Messrs W. E. Williams (president), J. J. Mcintosh, 11. Rutland, Sellers, McGregor, J. Mcintosh, Yarrall, Newman, Parry, Houston, Peake, and Evans. The New Zealand Railway Department wrote regretting that a special train from Christchurch on the morning of Boxing Day could not be run, as there was already a daily service. The New Zealand Racing Conference notified that B. N. Sandilands, of Feilding, would be stipendiary steward, and R. G. Black, of Wellington, racecourse inspector, for the Westland Club's Meeting. The Internal Affairs Department advised that A. G. Harper would bo totalisator inspector at the forthcoming Meeting. Dr. Hopkins wrote accepting the position of lion, surgeon. Tho New Zealand Racing Conference wrote that any punishments decided on by the judicial committee must be inflicted by the committee, and not by tho stipendiary steward, who could only suggest in such matters. Harbour Board. Tho Greymouth Harbour Board met this evening. Present:—Messrs P. J. McLean (chairman). J. W. Greenslade, G. 10. Perkins, J. Ryall, W. Clayton, and D. Temient. Before commencing the ordinary business the chairman moved that a motion of sympathy bo passed with Mr W- B. Gilbert (secretary of the Board) in the death of his brother, the Rev. Father Gilbert, at Christchurch. The acting-Harbour Master (Captain H. Moar) reported that the mean depth at high water, spring tides, for the month had been : —On the bar, 2o f cc t 8 inches; in the river, 2l feet 8 inches. Tho engineer reported that the output of stone from Cobden quarry for the month had been 2536 tons, which had been placed oil the north breakwater. All the now lenses and electrical equipment in connexion with tho additional harbour lights had been received, and would be installed forthwith. The Marin© Department advised that tho Board had been given power to contribute to any funds for the relief of unemployment. Tho Bluff Harbour Board offered their dredge Muriliikti for hire.
