CARNIVAL TO-NIGHT.
To-night at the Tepid Baths the Canterbury Centre will stage its opening carnival for "the season. An attractive programme has been arranged and some splendid racing is assured. The primary schools laid hurst Shield contest has attracted entries from seven schools. This La a contest between schools over a series of distances, points being awarded for each distance. No competitor may represent bis or her school m mora than one event, dive and relay excepted, so every team baa a good chance of winning. There are several Canterbury championships on the programme. The interclub handicap events have been well patronised by the swimmers, and some thrilling finishes should be seen. The men's onelength dash should be well worth seeing. A 'water polo match will be played. All the best Canterbury divers are competing in the dive. The carnival will commence at 7.30 p.m.
