THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL-SHIP.
* COMMENT ON AUSTRALIAN EXPERIMENT. (VKIT2D ri'.KSH ASSOCIATION—BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH —COPYRIGHT.) LONDON, December 7. The "Sunday News" says: There is a strong possibility of Sir Isaac Isaacs (appointed Governor-General of Australia) being raised to the peerage. City comment on the appointment ot Sir Isaac Isaacs thus far is confined to expressions of relief that a man of such extreme ability and unquestioned impartiality has been selected. Share quotations are unaffected. Some brokers believe the appointment tends to counteract rather than otherwise the depressing effect of the publication of reduced Australian revenue returns. The "Economist/' referring to Press apprehension, says the Governor-Gen-eralship has become the reward for political services, and points out that future Governors-General may be Irawn not only from Australians, but from distinguished persons throughout the Empire. The "'Economist" docs not doubt that future Prime Ministers' selections will be guided by the success or failure of the present experiment..
LABOUR PARTY OPPOSED TO TITLES. (Received December 9th, 12.35 a.m.) SYDNEY, December 8. Mr E. J. Fenton, the Acting-Prime Minister, says that the Government has no intention of recommending Sir Isaac Isaacs to be raised to the peerage. The Labour Party is definitely opposed to such a thing.
