PREVENTION OF CRUELTY.
♦ — CANTERBURY SOCIETY MEETS. The committee of tho Canterbury Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals met last evening. Present, Mr 8.. Wilson (chairman), Mrs A. L. Millington (organiser), Messrs J. Dalton, H. P. Bridge, the Rev. H. Northcote, and Messrs D. J. White (inspector), and G. T. Bullock (secretary). "Mrs Millington reported an increase in the work of tho Junior League. The Boys' High School and Technical School had each started a branch, and there were now 940 members. The interest in the Society's &tall at the recent Show was very keen, and members were enrolled from Tai Tapu, Hawarden, Waitaki, and Temuka. There was also a branch at Craighead School, Timaru. The outlook for the New Year was encouraging. The report suggested that a rally of Junior League members should be held at the end of the school holidays. If that were not feasible, a public meeting could be held, where the aims of the Society could be discussed. The report was received, and discussion of the suggestion s_ was postponed until the next meeting. The inspector's report stated that visits to, and inspections of, horse and' poultry saleyards had been made iu Rangiora and Christchurch. Visits had been paid to A. and P. shows at Addington, Kirwee, and Little River, nnd to a race meeting at Addington. Cautions had been given in a number of cases. The report was received.
