Jones and Miss Roberts), entertained parents and friends at their annual break-up. An enjoyable programme, consisting of elocutionary items, a vocal duet, and siwer'j submitted by the children. Rewa Barrett returned thanks for help given the Society during the past year. Miss Roberts asked Mrs Jones to accent a Christmas gift from tho children, an! Agnes Wells then asked Mi.ss Roberts to accept a gift for Christmas also, with all good wishes from the members of the Society. Prior to leaving - for home, hearty cheers were given for members of the School Committee, who had spared nc trouble in making complete arrangements for tlio day's enjoyment. SOUTH MALVERN. The monthly meeting of the Glentunnel School Committee was attended by Messrs L. Workman (chairman), \V. G. Smith, S. C. Cherry, G. Prestidge, and S. C. Marsh. It was decided not to present prizes this year, but in place thereof to hold a picnic early in the .New l'ear. Arrangements for the break-up function were discussed, and it wa> decided to hold a fancy dress dance for the children, and a dance for adults, in connexion with that function. It was decided to give several prizes for the best fancy dreises in the various sections. The inspector's report was received, and was considered very satisfactory. A letter of congratulation was received from the Education Board on the success of the school's forest tree propagation work, and expressed the Hoard's appreciation of the interest and work of the staff and pupils in so important a part ot the school work. There was a large attendance at the fortni'/htlv meeting of the Loyal Coleridge Lodsre, M.U.. 1.0.0. F., Bro, A King. X.G., presiding. It was reported that four members were on the sick list. The Duvanehello branch of the Women's Institute held a garden party in Mrs Prichnrd's grounds, when a very enjoyable time was spent. The weather was ideal tor the occasion, and all enjoyed the afternoon. The Akaroa brninh members had been invited and they attended in goodly numbers. During the afternoon, six voung ladies who had been coached bv Miss Fraser gave a demonstration of folk dancing and this, on the lawn, looked very well indeed. It had been decided that the members of the liuvauchelle branch should hold a !>r>ng and buy sale, and members brjuficlit articles made by themselves. There was a good display and all sold i-endilv. A clock golf course was for moil, and this gave amusement to several. Afternoon tea was served. Mrs r. Mould (president) welcomed •the Akarou members, and said it had been a pleasure to have them. She moved a vote of thanks to Mrs Prichurd for die use of her grounds. The motion was seconded by Mrs W. Giddens and carried by acclamation.

There was a good attendance on Saturday night at the weekly social arranged by the Greenpark Hall Committee. The competitions "were won by Mesdamcs Marks and Hoplev (Lincoln), and Messrs G. Schroeder and Dodd (Lincoln). Music for the dance was supplied by Mr 3 Clark, and Mr It. Thomas was M.C. The final social for the season will bo held this week, when the aggregate prizes will be presented. On Sunday afternoon the Sunday School anniversary service at the Greenpark Methodist Church was conducted by the Hon. L. M. Isitt, M.L.C. Special singing by the Tai Tapu choir was a feature of the service, and Mr Isitt gave the children an appropriate address. KIRWEE. The annual meeting of the Halkett Presbyterian Parish was held in the Kirwee Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Theo. Paterson presided. There was -i good attendance of representatives from each of the three churches —Halkett, Darfieid, and Kirwee. The financial statement for the year was considered very satisfactory. Sixty pound had been paid into the Assembly's Budget, and in addition to this the Darfieid. Halkett. and Kirwee P.W.M.U. committees had contributed £l2 "10s. It was unanimously agreed again to provide Christmas dinner at the Christchurch Presbyterian Orphanage. The Moderator thanked all who had assisted in making the work of the year in the parish so successful. Members expressed their high appreciation of the work done during- the vear by Mr Paterson. BURWOOD.
Tlio monthly meeting of the Burwood School Committee was held, the following being present : Messrs G. F. Robinson (chairman), Cusack, F. Reabv, Weatlierall, H. Reaby, and JPeters. The headmaster reported tho roll number as 136 and the average attendance as 124. The annual picnic would be held at Stewart's Gully on a date to l>e announced later. It was a matter for regret that Mr Knapp and Miss Morisby were leaving at the end of the term, both being popular and efficient in their respective departments. Miss Dorothy McXabb had !>oen adjudged the dux of the school and received the coveted trophy, and Master Maurice Waldron, next in merit, had also received a medal. A letter was received from the Education Department intimating that all subsidies were for tho time being suspended. The recent dance showed a surplus of £2 18s. Considerable discussion took place on the question of providing a retiring-room for eases of temporary sickness. The matter was held over for further consideration. Tt was decided to hold the usual breakup function at the Burwood Hall on December 18th. DARFIELD. A successful concert, in aid of funds for St. Saviour's Orphanage, was held irt tho Memorial Hall, when Mrs Stephen Parr and party, from Christchurch, gave a very entertaining programme, which included instrumental and vocal items and a playette by the Christchurch Repertory Club. An amount of £lO will be forwarded to the fund as a result of the entertainment. A book and coin afternoon for tho library at the local hospital was held at Mrs J. R. Cullen's residence. Many books were received and the library will be considerably augmented. A competition was won by Mrs C. K. lleid. There was a large attendance at a social which was held by members of St Andrew's Anglican Church in the Memorial Hall. The Rev. A. S. Moffatc presided. Several amusing competitions were held and the following programme was given:—Pianoforte duet, Kathleen and June Edbrooke; songs, M iss H. Cullen, Muriel Cridge, and Douglas Pole; recitations. Miss F. Iggo (Dunedin), Miss E. Joyce, Althea Lc-vick and Ngaire Black. In the Malvern Sub-Association's cricket competition Greendalo A and linrfield met on the tatter's ground on Saturday, Darfieid winning bv 76 runs. Tho scores were: Darfieid 137 (Portoous 29, Black 22, Mallard 12 Otten :, -3 Stewart 13). Greendnle A6l (Dean 25, Kay 11 not out). Bowling for Darfieid Gunn took five wickets for 20. Porteous five for 37. For Greendale E. Frew took six wickets for 55, L. Early one for 12, P. Dowd three for 63.
