ANNIVERSARY DAY.

ARRANGEMENTS FOR NEXT TUESDAY. Tlie arrangements made for the celebration of the &oth anniversary of the foundation of Canterbury were detailed at tho annual meeting of tho Canterbury Pilgrims' Association last night. The chairman (Mr E. R. Webb) said that be had been endeavouring to get tho ship flags of the Randolph, and would be glad of any assistance in that matter. On Tuesday nest a wreath would bo laid on tho Godley Statue. A gatliering of members would bo held at 2..'30 p.m. on tho United Bowling Club's ground, and bowls, croquet, tennis, and quoits would bo played. In tlie course of the afternoon there would bo dedicated a memorial erected round the spring used bv tho passengers by "the First Four Ships." who ramped at Pilgrims' Corner, in llaglev Park. The customary special service at the Cathedral would be held next. Sunday, at which Kishop West-Watson would be th" preacher. It was decided to ask the Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer) to request the citizens to display bunting on Anniversary Day, and also to ask all tonus in Canterbury to do similarly. On tho suggestion of Mr K. H. M:irriner it was decided to ask that a halfholiday should be given in all schools. Mr L. A. Graham said that he thought it was a disgrace to Canterbury that it had lost Anniversary Day as a public holiday. In Auckland* AVelhngton, Nelson, and Otngo they kept up tho anniversary of tho arrival of the first settlers, whilo in Christchurch they bad allowed it to lapse. It used to bo one of tho best days in Canterbury in the olden timas. At a meeting of the newly-elected committee, held after the annual meeting, it was decided to give a luncheon to the actual pioneers on Anniversary Day, and a sub-committee was set up to arrange tlie details.
