+ Kill- UK< OOMTION WANTED. | THE PEESti Special Service.! A l"( 'KLA N !I Joo.enilicr b. A mot c to have the School of Kngineering at Auckland 1. u i\cr.si t y granted full recognition by the li uiversity .Senate was decided upon at il meet jug of the College • ouncil today. Previous to students at .Auckland College were enabled to study for only the engineering intermediate examination, fn January of that year the Senate decided to allow Auckland to prepare students for the firs-t and Eccond professional examinations in addition to the intermediate examination. Under this arrangement Auckland .students must proceed to Christchurch to atudy for their final examination. In a report presented to the Council, the Deau of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor S. E. Lamb, said the School of Engineering had just completed four years' work since it received partial recognition from Senate to teach for the engineering degree. During those years the enrolments had been: — 1927 .. .. .. 128 1928 .. .. .. 135 1921) .. .. ..120 1930 .. .. ..112 School successes in degree examinations had been uniformly high in each of the four years. "The Auckland School of Engineering lias -amply justified the confidence reposed in it by the University Senate when it received partial recognition for teaching for the engineering degree." said Professor Lamb in conclusion, "but a certain amount of hardship still remains while our local students have to travel 500 miles to Christchurch to study for their final year. There is no reason why the Auckland School should not be granted full recognition. There is only one additional laboratory rep;:rod in the final year, hydraulics,"and tlie School is well equipped for teaching . iiis subject. Wo have been tcachinj; the whole of the subjects of the final year for the engineering degree for the purposes of the local diploma of associate in engineering for a considerable number of years past, and are well able to teach to the degree standard without any additional expense for equipment or staffing. I anticipate that 13 of our students will be qualified to study lor the final professional course of engineering degree in 303], and that these students will bo put to an additional expense of about £9O each if they are compelled to travel to Christchurch over and above what it would cost, them if they could remain in Auckland.-' It was decided unanimously to write to the University Senate asking f Ol . f,,jj recognition of the School.
