NEW BRIGHTON SCOUTS.
OPENING OF NEW HALL. The official opening of the new Scout Hall, in the Rawhiti Domain, NewBrighton, took place on Saturday afternoon, the ceremony being performed by the District Commisssioner, Mr W. H. Montgomery. There was a good attendance of the public, those present including Colonel £)r. Fenwick (Dominion Chief Commissioner), Major Furbv (Dominion secretary), and Mrs Furby. The following Scouts troops were represented : —New Brighton (District Scoutmaster Bishop), New Brighton Cubs (Cubmaster F. J. Lawrence Soott), Linwood (District Leader Collins), Addington (Scoutmaster Dyer), Woolston and Heathcote (Assistant Scoutmaster Barker). The Scouts formed a guard of honour for the visiting Commissioners, who were welcomed by the Mayor of New Brighton (Mr J. H. Shaw). Mr Shaw said the visit to New Brighton of the Commissioners would be long remembered by the Scouts and would give a fillip to the movement in the oorough. A Scout-house had been necessary for a long time, and in the new building they nad very fine headquarters. Mr Montgomery, in declaring the building open, congratulated the committee upon having such a fine building. He referred to the forthcoming visit of the Chief Scout, Lord BadenPowell, and gave a detailed account of the programme which was being drawn up. The New Brighton Scouts were noted for the basketware which they made, and an exhibition of this would be included. Colonel Dr Fenwick said that the Chief Scout would be asked to name the smartest Scout Troop, and he hoped the New Brighton boys would attain the honour of being selected. The Dominion Chief Commissioner then presented a five years' service medal to Scoutmaster March, of the New Brighton Troop, after which the Commissioners made an inspection of the parade. Cheers for the New Brighton Troop were given by the visiting Scouts, and were enthusiastically returned by the New Brighton Scouts. The Scouts then took part in a treasure hunt in the Dopis-in, and public inspected the Scouthouse and were served with afternoon tea. The building cost approximately £6O and was built by the voluntary labour of the New Brighton Scouts and members of the committee-
