REDCLIFFS REGATTA.
A POPULAR ATTRACTION. The fir.it of a Fericß of regattas was hold 011 Saturdav afternoon at Kedclifffl, o. recor<3 l.fiinir established in the number of viaitors as well as in the variety of the races and in the Henta on the water. Powor-boato, outboard motor-boats, rowing boats, and sailing yachts all contributed, under excellent conditions of weather and tide, to jnake the most animated and picturesque setting ever eeftn on the waters of the bay. Mr J. H. Wood (chairman of the Canterbury Sailing and Power-Boat Association) welcomed the visitors, and expressed his pleasure at the numbor of entrants in the events. He asked the Commodore of the day (Mr W. H. Nicholson) to apeak). ilr Nicholson congratulated the Association on its enterprise. The programme was probably unequalled in any other course in tn® Dominion The true spirit of 00-operotion was shown in the action of the Pleasant Point Club in providing all the tropnieß for the dav. Ho hoped the proposed Conservancy Board would soon be an accomplished fact If the Board were formed there would be 'funds for the encoursgment of every form of aquatic sports, and the City and Euburb3 would secure the maximum enjoyment. The Eetuary was a beautiful asset, find every member would do his best in the Ir.torests of the general public. He uad mnch pleasure in declaring the regatta open. The following are the results of the outboard motor-boat handicap races There were five he.-its of two laps each. The events again crettxed great interest. The only sensation of the day took place in the fourth heat, when Whdopee ntrtick a floating object, which disabled her propeller. Afterwards she waa towed back to the starter's base and retired from any further racing, her shaft apparently being damaged. First Heat. LAUNCH RACE. Tiie launch race covered a coyrae of two miles and a half. Eighteen launches were handicapped, but only a small number started.
