ILLEGAL LOTTERY.
'PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) DUNEDIN, December 5. The organiser of the Manufacturers' Association's carnival, held in aid of the Cancer Campaign Fund, was charged in the Magistrate's Court to-day with conducting a lottery. Inspector Cummings said the police were in sympathy with the campaign, but could not allow breaches of the law. He did not press for a penalty, but wanted the public to know that such lotteries could not be carried on. The Magistrate dismissed the case subject to the payment of 10s costs, adding that if similar cases came before the Court a substantial penalty would b« insgoaed.
