ELECTRIC POWER BOARD.

BANKS PENINSULA MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Banks Peninsula Electric Power Board was held at .Little River on Monday. Present wore :—Messrs J. K. Thackcr Goo. Armstrong, W. I*'. i'arkinsoii, C. E. Kay, A. M. Helps, and It. O. Bradley. An apology lor absence was received from Mr J. V. Chapman. The chairman reported that a public meeting had been recently held in Akaroa, wlic-ro considerable dissatisfaction had existed with regard to the recent changes in the Boara s schedule of rates lor electric supply, ihe meeting was well attended, and the Power Board had been represented by Messro G. Armstrong, A. M. Helps, the chairman, ana the Board's officials. Numerous questions had been answered, and at the conclusion of tho meeting ho thought that with 0110 exception, those present were satislied with the Board's explanation. Mr Armstrong said he thought that the meeting had done a lot of good in Akaroa, and speaking personally, he was very pleased with the result. Mr Bradley said that he had not been present at the Akaroa meeting, but according to a newspaper report, one speaker had stated that the Power Board appeared to be treating everyone as rogues. He strongly objected to such statements being made. He had been a member of the Power Board for some considerable time and he was sure the Board had always tried to give everyone fair treatment. In explanation, the chairman said that he thought the spoaker who made the statement referred to by Mr Bradley had not intended his remarks to be taken seriously. He would like to express the appreciation of the Board for the courtesy shown to the Board's representatives by the consumers of Akaroa, who had been present at the meeting, and also for the friendly manner in which the Board's explanations had been received. The engineer reported that during the month the inspector had been engaged in re-inspecting the installations in the Pigeon Bay district, and in general canvassing. The line gang had been employed on re-insulating work, and replacement of poles. The replacement of insulators on the Le Bon's Bay and Wainui lines had nowbeen completed. In the Little Akaloa district a portion of the Chorlton I'ne required attention. In the high tension lines, 85 new poles were erected, and 137 poles were removed. The transformers for these lines were now drying out at Duvauchelle, and should be readv for service in about a week. The additional connected load for the month totalled 23.5 kilowatts. The Akaroa plant was still being run. but owing to a decrease in the supplv or •water the hours of operation had been reduced from 17 to 15 daily.
