WAGE REDUCTION.
LEAD AWAITED PROM GOVERNMENT. (PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) TE AROHA. December 2. To-day the Thames Valley Power Hoard considered in committee the question of effecting economies by various means, including a reduction in salaries. The chairman, Mr F. M. Strange, h'ter made & statement to the Press in which he said it was decided to take no action at present, but the whole pos.tion would be reviewed in February next. The costs of administration in the Thames Valley district, he said were the lowest in the Dominion with the exception of Hawke's Bay, which sold most of its current in bulls to Napier and Hastings.
The Board took the view that as most of the employees were protected by awards, ft was unfair to start economies b-v reducing the salaries of those without protection, thus brinc'n" pnvment down in the higher branches to less than the wacps nf ordinary labourers. Tt was held thnt it salaries and wages are to lie reduced, it should bo orpTKTn) and tW Government should take the initiative
