SECOND GRADE COMPETITION.

AMENDMENT OF AGE RULE. A long discussion, which terminated in a member promising to table a notice of motion that the rule limiting the age in the Second Grade A teams be suspended, followed a re* port on the conduct of that particular competition from the Competitions Committee. One of the conditions under which the Second Grade A teams play is that the teams must not contain more than three players over 25 years of age, but it was reported by Mr Dey, for the Competitions Committee, that Riccarton, Lancaster Park, and West Ohristchurch Clubs had all broken that rule in the first three games of the competition— Riccarton in the first game. West Christchurch in all games, and Lancaster Park in the first two games. After Mr Dey had made this report Mr Page moved that the clubs be written to and asked for an explanation, and following explanations made by Mr Rix (Riccarton) and Mr King (Lancaster Park), the motion was seconded by Mr Thompson. Mr King then asked that if the explanation of the breach received by the secretary from the Lancaster Park Club were sufficient, the matter be dealt with at the meeting. "We will take the penalty, if there is one,'* he added.

The motion that the offending clubs be asked for an explanation was carried. Mr Dey then moved a further motion that the clubs be written to and advised that they were breaking the age rule, and must in future observe it.

Reorganisation of Grades. Mr Dey's motion evoked considerable discussion, during which the mover made reference an additional recommendation of the Competitions Committee that all grade competitions be reorganised for the next season. One of the proposals stated by Mr Dey was that the second grade competition be limited to one team from each senior club. He said the scheme aimed at tightening up the grades by balancing the number of teams m each grade. Mr Page seconded Mr Dey's motion that tne clubs be asked to abide by the rules; but. an amendment moved by Mr King, that the matter be deferred until after the nest meeting of delegates, was carried.
