CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE! MEET.

Mr W. Simpson presided at a meeting of tho Management Committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association last evening. Thera ■were also present—Messrs E. O. Luttrell, C. H. Ayling, C. T. Rix, W. L. Kins, W. J. V. Hamilton, O. S. Thompson, C. E. Evans, R. C. Burns, A. Dev, G. IX. Robertson, and P. A. Jarrett. Auckland! Team. Advice was received that the Auckland representative team would arrive in Christchurch on Tuesday, December 23rd, under tho management of Mr N. C. Snedden, and would be in Christchureli until December 30th. Encouraging Bowlers. In a letter forwarded by Mr D. Reese, Mr Heathcote Williams, of Hastings, offered to Kive to the Association a copy of each of the books on bowling by C. Grinimett and Turner, so that these might be circulated among young bowlers for their instruction. "I feel that cricket in New Zealand wants the advent of some good bowlera more than batsmen at the present time,'* said Mr Williams iu his letter. "It is difficult to find good bowlers anywhere just now, and it has occurred to me that with a view to encouraging juniors to learn and master the principles of bowling it would bo a good thing to encourage them to study the conclusions of prominent bowlers." The letters stipulated that tho Association should retain ownership of the books, if accepted, and lend them out to promising juniors. Tho offer was accepted.

Plunket Shield Games. Messrs Luttrell, Burns, and Thompson weio appointed a sub-committee to make arrangements for the Plunket Shield games against Auckland and Wellington, which will take place nt Christchurih during the Christmas und New Year holidays. It was decided to request the Umpires* Association to submit the names of all umpires available for the games to tho Auckland and Wellington Associations.

Players for Practice. It was decided to ask the following players to commence practice at Lancaster Park at 5 p.m. 011 Thursday, with a view to selection in the Plunket Shield representative team:A. W. Roberts, J. Jacobs, J. Powell, P. Powell, M. L. Page, N. Dorreen, C. G. Crawford, J. Kerr, R. Bean, S. Lester, R. O. Talbot. I. B. Cromb, R. Read, T. Kennedy, J. T. Burrows, W. E. Merritt, and R. C. Burns. Messrs King and Ij. D. Page were appoint, ed practice managers. Australian Visit. "It is quite probable that the. visit of an Australian eleven to Now Zealand which we have been endeavouring to arrange will take place, 1 * said the chairman. It was pointed out that in the event of the visit taking place a Test match would be played in Christchurch on March ISth, 14th, and 16th. Larger Wickets. The meeting decided, on the motion of Mr King, that in all future senior grade games the larger stumps be used. It was also resolved that the larger wickets be adopted in the game between the Canterbury team and tho Suburban Associations today at Haglcy Park, General Business. A letter was received from the South Canterbury Association asking if it would be possible to have South Canterbury players included in the trial match, Town v.
