COUNTY COUNCILS.
AKAROA. A meeting of the Akaroa County Council was held on Saturday. Present: Messrs C. B. Thacker (chairman), W. W. Williams, E. Hay, W. H. Taylor, and A. A. McPhail. Mr Thacker reported tha»t Mr Hammond had interviewed him about tho culvert near his gate, and asked that tho Council should reconsider their decision not to shift the culvert. Mr Williams had inspected the culvert and thought that the council had done all that was necessary. It was resolved to take no further action in tho matter. t It wa«s decided that work at tho bridge be held over until after Christmas. Mr Hay reported with regard to motor-car' trials, and . suggested that the local bodies should write to the Automobile Association complaining about tho damage to roads and the inconvenience to the public. It was decided that tho Council should protest against ca«r and cycle trials being held on the Peninßula roads. It was resolved to write to Mr Grant and protest against his action in speeding over county roads when on trials with cars, and colliding with Mr McPhaiion thq Summit road. !' Mr Taylor said he was pleased to see thai the bridges were being painted. Mr Thacker said that many complaints in regard to wandering stock had boen received. It was resolved to draw tho ranger's attention to this matter. The St. John Ambulance Association wrote asking if the Council would .receive a deputation next meeting. It was resolved to invite them to attend next meeting, on December 20th.
The Eltham Borough Council submitted a scheme for easing the unemployed difficulty, and at the same time bringing unproductive land into production. This was held over until next meeting,.. The Oxford County Council-, wrote asking for support of a resolution asking the Hospital Board to keep down their estimates as low as possible. It- Was decided to support the resolution.
The finance statement showed: Receipts, £853 13s 4d; accounts for payment, £834 14s 3d; debit balance, £2424 9s sd.
