STRUCK CHILD WITH BOTTLE.
MAN SENT TO GAOL. tail's 5 3 ASSOCIATION TELSG2AI2T.) DUNKDIN, December 1. Stating that when Stanley Redvers Buller struck a sleeping girl, aged six, over the head with a bottle, he was fully responsible for his act, Mr Justice Kennedy sentenced him to nine months' reformative detention to-day Medical evidence was that the prisoner showed no signs or insanity, but the crime could be attributed to drinking prior to the offence. The girl's skull was fractured. The Judge said the prisoner was fortunate he was not charged with murder. The true explanation of the prisoner's conduct, was that l}e had struck the girl to spite her father Although it was some time since the prisoner hnd taken drink, his mind at the time was apparently in an irritable condition It might be said in t>ris">ner's favour that when he thought he had murdered the girl he immediately went to the police, and the latter's timely assistance may have saved the girl'a life.
