MAURICE CHEVALIER.
—« POPULAR RECEPTION AT LONDON. (UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION—BT ELECTRIC XT-LEGE APH—COPTBiaHT.) (Beceived November 30th, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, November 29. A multitude of flappers, old and young, invaded Victoria Station and mobbed Maurice Chevalier, the film star, who appears definitely to have dethroned Valentino in popularity. He arrived by a special train, and thus had the platform to himself. The crowd passed the time singing Chevalier | songs, and when he appeared there was an immense uproar, girls throwing i kisses, waving handkerchiefs, and crying welcomes, to which Chevalier pursed his lips, expressing whimsical wonder, and waved in the direction of the seething crowd. Gramophones continued to play songs, and Chevalier stepped to a microphone installed on the platform and in hesitating English said: "I am happy to return to London." Only one girl secured his autograph, but a number managed to perch on the running board of Chevalier's motor-car for a few seconds till the police guard pushed them off.
