SONG RECITAL.
MRS PALK'S STUDENTS. Mrs J. W. Palk has long been appreciated aa an able teacher of singing, and the recital by her students at the Art Gallery, on Saturday night, confirmed the record, beyond doubt. Again th» impression was gained that she fully understood the art of developing voiceb as far as individual means and talents permitted. The long list of the singers appearing permits only the briefest references. Mrs Kenneth Andrews sings Roberto" very well, and better the Cry of Bachel." A fine voice and expressive production are at Miss Ann Lucas's command. "With a pleasing alto of moderate strength, Mrs Chas. Ayling combines taste. "Josca's Prayer" and the "Spirit Flower" wers creditable contributions by Miss Agatha Clark. In the Mendelssohn song "On the Wings of Song," the Misses Hoggan and Lucas's voices blended fairly. Mrs Cyril Goode was a vivid interpreter of "My Heart is Weary" and Sanderson's "Glory of the Sea." Light, but sympathetic was Mrs S. Mallard's singing of "La Partida," and similarly appealed Miss Olivo Jenkitu in Sandon Konald's "Prelude." Quitter's "By the Sea," fell to Miss Olive Itobson and Curran's "Dawn" to Miss Phyllis Bound, both claiming success. Glanville Bantock is a bold adventurer fancying he could set to "Woman's Last Word," which Mis? Phyllis .Hoggan thereupon persuadcil you to believe in. As the only mate member in the cast, Mr Vinnicombo was bound to be a favourite of the whole fair sex present. The part-songs and Cowen's Cantata, conducted by Mis Palk, and tastefully supported at tie piano by Mrs Kenneth Andrews, developed a very good and ringing tore, well-blended, on the part of some 25 voieos. Miss Aileen Warren accompanied the solob well, and, in the main, discreetly, though occasionally forgetting. Encoiiraging applause persisted all through Ihe recital.
