A Close Finish. The Tiri Higliwoight Handicap wai productive of a good finish, Trishna, tin favourite, coming on strongly to wii from Glenstar and Sleepy Sol. Armenif Itul for half a mile, when Ruby Dawi took up the running for another twi furlongs. Then I J atutahi and Alwayi had a short turn in the lead, to givi way at the two furlong post to Sleep: Sol, who led round the bend froii 1 atutahi, Glenstar, and Luminary, witl Trishna coming fasl. Trishna main tamed his effort in the straight to beai I Glenstar by three parts of a length j C'leepy Sol being half a length away j third Stonehejige was fourth foJ- | lotveu by Patutahi, Luminary, and Kai j run. Tho winner came from a long way oavk, and should bo difficult to beai ogam on Monday. Trishna is a five year-old gelding by Scremond from Maijaig, and was purchased in Australia last Icbruary by G. I'aul. Sleepy So] mad© his effort a trifle earlv.

Favourite Pails,

a CiJiakoe was over twice ns well wu-Kril as Kaucy Lee, for the Borough Handicap, but he failed at. tho finish, ar or being unduly bustled in the early stages. Nancy Lee led for two furlongs, when she was joined by Sir Bussell, who had gone vorv fast* from the extreme outside at tho barrier. At tho end of three furlongs Tenakoe went up on the outside of tlio leaders, and then lie and Sir Russell drew out. Tenakoo was beaten at the turn, and Sir Kusscl] led into the straight from White \\ings, who finished on well to boat n by a length and a half. Honiton was half a head awav, (bird, and Branson fourth.

latiently ridden Sir JJussell might liave won. Tenakoe must also have done better if he had been ridden diflercntly. Branson ran vory wide round the home turn, otherwise he would have been a little closer. The winner was at a good price and won Ave)!.

The Plate. Good betting on the Takapnna Plate saw Havaspot installed a pronounced favourite over Biddy's Boy and Awamutu. Only one side of the barrier went up when the starter released the lever, and some of the horses on the outside were prevented from gettin" away. Fortunately the official was able to recall the field, although Awamutu and Biddy's Boy went n few furlongs before they could be pulled up. Biddy's Boy led early, to give way at the end of throe furlongs to Tradesman, who led into the straight from Havaspot Iving Ford, Tetrachate, and Volimond. In the run homo Volimond beat Tetrachate by half a length, with Karangapai a neck away third. Hosshire was fourth, followed by Havaspot and Tradesman.

Volimond's effort was a good one, as she was in slight trouble near tho turn and then had to come on the outside. Tetrachate, at a good price, ran easily his best race, and Karangapai came from a long way back with a fine rattle at the finish. Kosshire was also running on, but Havaspot weakened at the end after looking a likely winner at the turn. A Pleasing Performance. The three-year-old Sargon registored a pleasing performance in winning the Alison Cup, and responded in very determined fashion when asked for a final effort in the straight. Speculation on the race was heavy, and Eager Rose was five shillings better backed than Sargon, who had a good call over Desert Glow. Flying Prince and Desert Glow carried tho field along until five furlongs from home, when Eager Rose slipped through on the rails and led into the straight from Sargon, Corinax, and True Blood. Once the pressure was applied Sargon asserted his superiority and won well by a length from Eager Rose. True Blood was half a length back third and Corinax fourth. The next to finish were Bennie and Nassoek. It was not a strong field, but Sargon's performance was a good one, and he is seemingly a solid stayer. Eager Rose registered a good performance and should soon win. True Blood went a sound race, and Corinax went surprisingly well, considering that he is not yet at his best. All the others failed badly.

Tea Chat Defeated. Tho Canterbury Jockey Club Welcome Stakes winner, Tea Chat, was backed down to odds-on for the Cambria Handicap, but he had to strike his colours to his stable-mate, Chief Jewel, who ia trained by J. T. Jamieson for Mr F.. Earl. Chief Jewel and Iloihoma led into the straight just clear of Tea Chat. Chief Jewel finished on well to score by three-parts of a length. Princess Bede, who finished fast, was a head away third and Speedmint fourth. Nest came Hoihoma and Eoyal Gallant. The winner is by Chief Ruler from Spangle and Is a smart galloper. Tea Chat, who was steadied in behind after going a furlong, hung in when his rider drew the whip in the straight, otherwise he would have been a trifle closer. Princess Bede was slow to begin and also received a slight check across the top. Hoihoma and Royal Gallant displayed plenty of speed, but both failed to run on.

Sir Mond Lucky. Making his second appearance for the day, Sir Mond was made a good favourite for the Ponui Handicap, and he duly scored, although he was a shade lucky to beat Manawhenua, who struck a little trouble along the back. Sir Mond and Clopton wore quickly in tho lead from Manawhenua, and they carried on the running right into the straight, where Manawhenua and Brampton were in close attendance. Sir Mond battled on well at the finish and just held off Manawhenua, Clopton was a head away third, and Neil fourth. Next came Brampton and Claremore. Manawhenua is on the improve and should win soon, while Brampton and Clopton should also be dangerous the next time they are produced in similar company. Xioitrtm Scores. Paganelli was made favourite for the Cheltenham Handicap, but after missing the jump out lie failed to show anything like his true form and missed a place. Leitrim soon ran to the front, and he just led into the straight from Royal Tea, who was clear of Billikins and Treasury. Leitrim outstayed Royal Tea at the finish and beat him by a length. Lucy Rose was two and a half lengths away third and Treasury fourth. Next came Paganelli and Billikins. Leitrim was always going liko a winner, although ho was hard pressed by Royal Tea at the turn. Eoyal Tea is on the improve and will be a better horse for the race. Paganelli displayed some speed for a few furlongs, but did not appear dangerous at any stage over the last three furlongs. Treasury made a creditable showing after failing to begin with his usnal dash. ACCEPTANCES FOR TO-DAY. (FRSSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, November SO. VAUSHALL HANDICAP, Of 200 soya.
