BOXING.

INTER-PROVINCIAL TOURNAMENT. The inter-provincial contest for the "WaiRongoa Shield" between the Otago and Canterbury representatives to be held in the Civic Theatre on Tuesday next will be the first contest between full-strength representative teams of the provinces since 1920, Otago is the present holder of tho shield, having won it the last time it was fought for. It is proposed to make tho contest an annual one in future. The prospects of the two teams in Tuesday's meeting appear to be very even. Both provinces are very strong in the feather-weight class, and it has been agreed between the Associations that there shall bo two fights in this weight. Otago is once more represented by a Leckie. How many years must it bo since Otago took the ring without a Leckie? He and Buckland will meet worthy opponents in Hawes and Overend. In the light-weights, Baird will be making his reappearance after an absence of several months from tournaments to meet Campbell. Colin Gardner will be conceding weight to a hard man in Watson in the heavy-weight division. The other Canterbury representatives, Davey, Forward, and Pocock (all of whom fought well in tho New Zealand championships), can be counted on for sparkling fighting against worthy opponents. J. Johnston, Canterbury champion fly-weight, is not available to meet Anderson, the Otago champion in that class. His place, however, is being filled by Cullimore (South Canterbury), who beat Johnston in the recent Timaru Association tournament. Altogether a great evening's boxing is assured, to see which there should be a capacity house. Day sales and reserves may "be obtained at Lange's, TJnited Service Buildings.
