BAPTIST CHURCH FUNCTION. T-lio Kov. L. A. North, who lias been called- to. the pastorate of the Oxford terrace Baptist Church, will commence his ministry on December Ist. . public welcome meeting will be held- in the church on the evening of Tuesday, December 2nd, at which the Mayor (the Rev. J. K. Archer), the Rev. Dr. J. J. North, and other well-known ministers will speak. The Rev. L. A. North is the younger son of Dr. C. North, of Dunedin, grandson of the . late Itev. Alfred North, one of the founders of the Baptist Union of New Zealand, and nephew, of Dr. J. J. North, who is" Principal of the Baptist College, Auckland. -He was; until recently, minister of the Moniington Church, Dunedin. Before" being trained for the ministry, Mr North qualified as a solicitor in Dunedin, but reliquislied that profession to study at Knox College, Dunedin, .and afterwax-ds. at the Baptist Training College, Auckland. He is .'a 'fine , singer, and.-pianist^ Mr. North was reeijnUy married to. Miss Fiances Merrington. daujghter ot the Rev. Dr.-N. Merrington, Principal of.Knox College, Dunedin. Mrs-North-is a graduate of■ Otago University. having taken the B.A. degroe of the University of New Zealand. ~ .
