- YESTERDAY'S MEETING. i he Noi th Canterbury Hospital 8.-ard met yesterday. Present: Mr H. J". Otley (chairman), Miss E. J. M. Cardale, Mrs T. Green, Mrs E. McComhs, Drs. H. T. D. Acland, and P. Stanley Foster, and Messrs Wm. Anderson, G. Armstrong, J. S. Barnctt, J. Boyd, 11. R. Davison, 11. H. Holland, F. Horrell, D. McMillan, F. G. Norton, F. Kowell, A. T. Smith, W. P. Spencer, and W. -J. Walter. Hospital Jtoport. The Hospital Committee's report showed that, during October, There had been a daily average of 390 patients in the Hospital. In the Venereal Diseases Department there had been 1239 attendances, representing 25S patients, £8 of whom wcro new. Staff Nurse Fisher had been granted eight months' leave of absence to enable her to take her midwifery training. Nurse Margaret Barnctt had been released from duty for eighteen months, to enable her to proceed to England, where she would take a post-graduate course. Twenty-seven nurses had passed tho hospital final examination. The senior dental surgeon reported | that there had been 1021 attendances at the Dental Department during October. 441 fresh patients having beei. examined. ' Dr. P. Clennell Fenwick reported that 43 fresh patients had been accepted for treatment in the Radium Department, 20 of whom were suffering from some form of malignant disease. I During October, according to tlio report of the Matron of the Infectious , Diseases Hospital, 56 cases of scarlet fever and 26 canes of diphtheria had been treated. At the end of the month there had been 44 remaining in the institution. I Dr. I. C. Maoiutvre's report showed that, at the end of last month, no patients were awaiting admission either to the Middle or Upper Sanatorium?. Two women and one man awaited admission to Coronation Hospital, one man and one woman having since made application. There had been 169 attendances at the Dispensary, seven of whom were soldiers and 22 fresh case". Eenevolent Committee's Work. ''The demands on tho committee's funds arc still very great; this is perhaps to be explained by the fact that many organisations that were giving relief during the winter months have now exhausted their funds, and, consequently, the burden falls upon the Board," stated the report of the Benevolent Committee. "The applications for accommodation m the Old People's Homed are such that it is exceptional to have a vacant bed." The number of applications for bene- ! volent assistance dealt with was 9SS, representing 3723 persona. There wers also 15 applications for admission to institutions. Tenders Accepted. The Finance Committee reported having accepted the following tenders; Essex Home, painting: T. H. Davies and Co., for £176 16s; estimate £263. I Tuarangi, painting: W. Bennett and Son for £167; estimate £IBS. Lyttelton Maternity Hospital: F. E. Musgrove for £3495 9s' 9d; estimate £3500. Sanatorium Nurses' Home, extension: L. B. Davenport for £6800; estimate £-9500.
