FREE AMBULANCE.
NEW HEADQUARTERS OPENED. The Christchurch Free Ambulance Society opened its new headquarters at the corner of Fitzgerald avenue and Ferry road "yesterday afternoon. Accommodation is provided for the two motor ambulances, while there is also a room fitted up as a dressing station. where cases can be attended to without delay and then dispatched to the Hospital or to their homes, according to the severity of the injury suffered An exhibition of the rendenng of first aid was given yesterday aftern°ThO superintendent of the service (Mr A E Higgins) said the service was designed to cover the needs of the whole of Canterbury. The second van was almost ready, while there were four motor-cycle patrols, and one small car carrying two men which worked on the Peninsula, where they hoped shortly to establish a depot. Their aim was not to have all the ambulances concentrated in the town, but to set up depots in central plnoea through the country. Dr. A; J. Orchard, continued Mr Higgins," had accepted the position of ex--aminirig-doctor for. fir3t aid certificates and free classes would be held each weelc for both men and women.
