MISS MACDONALD'S PUPILS' RECITAL.
"The St. Saviour's Guild is very grateful to Miss Bessie Macdonald and her pupils for their excellent dance recital in aid of the orphanages," said Mr C. E. Jones during an interval at the second presentation cx pupils' work at the Civic Theatre last night, Mr Jones made his appearance at the commencement of the second half of the programme, stating that ho had been called away from tho City Council meeting for the purpose. The npplaufce, he buid, could be heard from the Council rooms, and he welcomed the opportunity of returning thanks to the performers. Miss Macdoanld, said Mr Jones, took a great interest in tho welfare of the children, and each season she seemed to introduce fresh stars. The total co6t of the maintenance of the orphanages was £IO,OOO a year, and they needed every penny to keep going. Mr Jones thanked all who had assisted in the staging of the recitals which were presented on Saturday night and last night. Ab usual, the programme went with a swing from start to finish, each act following closely dpon the heels of its predeces* sor, and Miss Macdonald is to be highly con gratulated on the work of her pupils. At the close of the performance a Father Christmas, from the D.1.C., distributed presents, ranging from a doll's pram to a bouquet, to the artists, amidst the applause of the large audience. The total'proceeds are not available, as returns from many ticket sellers are yet to be roceived.
