Following a 12 per cent, salary reduction, a regulrir drive has been initiated throughout Italy to reduce the cost of living. Meetings were held to-day in every city and township in order to re-adapt local economy with a view to reducing the prices of broad, moat, vegetables, and rent.
New prices have already been submitted to the Governor of Rome, showing a reduction of from 10 to .12 per cent, in foodstuffs. Scores of landlords have announced rent reductions. At present all the changes are voluntary; but public opinion ia so strong that unybodv withholding would find himself hounded out of business.
The vigorous campaign has been so effective that the salary reductions have already been balanced by the new spending value of tho lira.
