SYDNEY, November "2 During a terrific storm at Newcastle Edward Joaton, aged twelve years, was struck dead by lightning. Eye-witnesses relate that the flames appeared to surround him. Burns extended the full length of the right side of the body.

The storm lasted less than half an hour, but the rain was so heavy that the streets resembled mlniaturo watercourses. The ferry boat drifted on to a mudbank, and the passengers had to be rescued.
