Arising but of theft charges in th« Children's Court against two boys it ; \vas learnt that the 'lads had broke* into a shell in which detonators wer# stored. They stole two tins of detonators, which one of them took home. Subsequently the detonators wero thrown on the foreshore of the harbour and some other children, thinking they were pencil; tops, picked them up and took them home. There the element of dangtr wis Introduced for, not knowing what, they were, the mother threw them on the stove, the top of which was blown off, and the woman considerably burned. The police informed the Court that all the detonators had not been recovered. Comment was made by the Court on the fact that such dangerous articles should have been left apparently m a place, to which children had such easy access. The police said thfy had interviewed the proprietor of the place in which the detonators were stored, and arrangements had now been made for them to be more securely housed.
