EAST CHRISTCHURCH CLUB. The new season of the East ChrUtchnrch Amateur Swimming Club opened on Sstur* day afternoon in fine weather. In declaring the season officially opened Mr D. F. The new season of the Addington Amateur Swimming Cmb was opened on Satur* day afternoon at the club's bath in Jerrold street. Canon W. 8. Bean, the patron, who has been connected with tho club for twenty* five years, was introduced by Mr H. E. Sewell. The necessity of learning to swim, both fox tho physical benefit gained and for its use in saving life, was urged by Canon Bean. After formally declaring the season open, he dived into the bath. Several races were held in the course of the afternoon, the results being as follows 50yds Junior Handicap—R. Moore (2sec) 1, M. Sewel] (Ssec) 2, R. Bradshaw (2sec) 3. Time, 39sec. 25yds Schoo.boys' and Schoolgirls* Race —A. Sewell (Ssec) 1, O. Manhire (scr) 2, D. Bottle (7sec) 3. Time, 25 2-ssec. 25yds Boy Scouts' Handicap—R. Moore (scr) 1, M. Sewell (ssec) 2, H. Lachner (ssec) 3. Time, 21 3-ssec. Greasy Pole—G. Harris.
