PLAY BETWEEN AMATEURS AND PROFESSIONALS.

The height of absurdity has been readied by the rules of the Lawn Tennis Association governing, or rather forbidding, play between amateurs and professionals, states the London "Daily Mail." For this august body has decided that an English ex-cavalry officer may not, because ha is now a professional coach, play lawn tennis with an amateur on his own private court in front of his own private guests at a private party given by himself. The officer in question is Major Kendall, late of the 104 th Regiment and the Indian Cavalry, while the amateur is Mr Nigel Sliarpe.
