The Washington correspondent of the "New York World" states that President Hoover will ask Congress for an additional authority to deal with the gangster situation throughout the United States, besides prosecution for failure to pay income taxes. A nation-wide campaign against the so-called racketeers, who levy many millions of dollars in" blackmail upon legitimate businesses, has been launched Congressmen who recently returned from their districts found constituents alarmed over the boldness of the gangsters, and want the Federal Government to go as far as it can in the war against them.

■Racketeers controlling the movement of freights at railway and steamship terminals collect millions of dollars yearly, and their action has reduced the shippers' rate three cents per £IOO on merchandise in and out of New York, according to information which lias reached the District Attorney, Astounding stories are told of how small traders pay tribute to the racketeers, and others are blackmailed.
