A mazer belonging to' Sir Charles Fergusson, formerly Governor-General of New Zealand, consisting of a maplewood bowl with a silver rim, believed to have been made in Edinburgh in 157 C, and to be the fourth oldest example of Scottish silver bearing the hallmark, realised £6OOO at Sotheby's.

According to a legend, it v.-as the gift of the then , Scottish King James to a Fergusson, who was his tutor and chaplain.
