FALSE ALARMS
BRIGADE'S BUSY EVENING. i63OCiA.T:o:; AUCKLAND, November 21. Ten false fire alarms were given in the City last evening in two and a-half hours. The Central Brigade, in duty bound, answered every one. The individual responsible showed considerable daring. . . After the second call the brigade informed the police, and all constables were instructed to .keep a look-out. A constable at one corner was amazed to sec the brigade arrive, ho having been waiting in hiding, in the- hope oi; catchins, tho miscreant. At) inspection showed that the glass of a bos nearby had been broken. At three minutes past 10 an alarm was given from a box close to. the Town Hall, where many cars and trams were waiting. It is believed that a pad was used to deaden the sound of breaking glass. On Tuesday evening the brigade received four false alarms, and the Mount Eden Brigade also received four alarms this week. It is recalled that a few years ago, when a Devonport brigade was answering a false alarm, the engine crashed into a post, killing tho deputysuperintendent, maiming a constable, and injuring three firemen.
