The president of the Board of Trade, Mr William Graham, announced in the House of Commons today that the Government had decided that, as tha object of the Dye-stuffs Act had been attained, it should lapse on January 15th next. The Act provided for the safeguarding of the dyemaking industry by a system of prohibition subject to licensing, and it was expressly provided in the Act that it should continue in force for a period of ten years and no longer. _ Mr Graham said a committee recently showed that the industry had now reached a stage at which it was capable of meeting a very large proportion of the requirements of dyestuff users in the United Kingdom, and of carrying on an increasing export trad-e, and the manufacturers had indicated their ability .to meet normal foreign competition, in respect of price. It now appeared that the object of the Act had been attained in the, ten years it had been in force.
