The report of the Select Committee on the Public Accounts details two extraordinary cases of income tax eva. sinn. In the first. £856,000 escaped assessment, upon which £384,000 in tax was pnynbie. The case was settled for a £550',000 duty and penalties. In thu second case, £536.000 was omitted from the return, which would have a liability of £. 381,000, A sura of £500,000 was accepted as settlement.
