LORD MAYOR'S SHOW IN LONDON.
PAGEANT OF EMPIRE. DOMINIONS REPRESENTED. (BEITISQ OJTICIAL VTIRBLESS.) (Received November 11th, 5.5 p.m.) RUGBY, November 10. The Lord Mayor's' Show, one of the oldest of London's civic pageants, was held to-day, when the new Lord Mayor, Sir William Phene Neal. rode through the city in the famous gilt coach, the centre figure in the procession of civil dignitaries, soldiers, scouts, bands, and representatives of city companies. Thia year the procession took the form of a Pageant of Empire, and included four elephants, carrying howdahs, representing a Mohammedan building and a Hindu temple, signifying India; and special displays representing Canada, this including mounted Rod Indians; Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, the Irißh Free State, an<} Newfoundland Great crowds watched the progress 'rom the Guildhall to the Law Courts. While the Ijord Mayor's procession was passing along the Embankment, lour elephants forming an Indian pageant," noticing some university students holding up a rag lion mas' cot, rushed into the crowd and grasped the lion. scattered the students,- and tlrni r■ turned to their p aces in the procession. iuany w thu i.Ui were knocked down and slightly injured in the confusion, but the elephants carefully avoided trampling on anyone, though th« pavements were closely crowded. Thirty were injured by the elephants, several being taken to hospital. The animals were docile tiU they sighted tho mascot lion.
