♦- , NEW PROGRAMME COMMENCES FRIDAY. The double-star programme now showing si the Civio will finish on Thursday night TMs programme comprises two films of outstanding merit, Paramount'* all-talking drama f the East, "The Letter," starring Jeanne and 0. P. Heggie, and United Artists' parttalkie "This i« Heaven," starring Vilma Hanky. In addition Mr Percy S. Burraatoo plays "A Night in Italy" on the grand organ. On Friday Joan Crawford will be seen and heard in her first talking pietnre, ''Ontamed," with Robert Montgomery playing the leading male role. The scene in the opening is laid in Central America, where Binge Dowling (Joan Crawford) lived with her father. The latter's death, and all that such at event mean* to an unprotected girl in the jungles, the advent of a handsome young white man, and then the ultimate return of all concerned to New YorJ;, provide all the material necessary for a flrst-elasa play. Added to this excellent film there will be screened "Glorious Vamps," a musical fantasy dealing with the vamps, of all ages from Eve to Uio modern jazz-girl.
