CANTERBURY MARKETS
FURTHER WEAKENING IN OATS. (&T OVX COMMBBCIAIi SDITOB.) Tuesday Evening* Oatft and Chaff. Values for oatsT aro again weaker, and although there arc quite a quantity of southern oats offering, buyers are few and the market isvery quiet. Tor da.y A Gartons for June .delivery may be obtained at 3s 10d- f.0.b.,. s.i., and those for Bpread delivery are offering at 4b, with no buyers. B'a have eased in value to a corresponding extent. ■Chaff has also eased slightly in sympathy with oats, and ; to>day'B quotation is £7 2s 6d for June delivery. This is equivalent to £5 10s to £5 12s 6d on trucks. Chaff for July-August-Sep-tember delivery is worth a little in excess of the value quoted above*
Wheat. : The interest in the wheat market aB far as the "free" supply is concerned, has practically concluded and the Pool is the chief holder. There is very little, business passing in next season's wheat, but some has taken place on the basis of 5s 6d for Tuscan, 5s 8d for Hunters, and to 5s lid for PearL There is little enquiry for fowl wheat, which remains firm at 6s a bushel f.0.b., s.e. Potatoes.
Actually the price of potatoes fos prompt delivery shows an easing ten-, dency, but there is very little quotable change in values. The position really "is a false one, as the firming which has taken place during the last week has been confined to Cashel street, and the Auckland market, to all intents and purposes, is over-supplied, and extremely weak. Certainly, if Auckland could be cleared the position would assume stability, but there, does not seem any likelihood of this with supplies , still much in,excess! of the demand. At,present there are not many tubers offering for prompt delivery, and such are worth £3 15s a ton on' trucks, while, for the end of June, up to £4 a ton has been. paid. July 's are .quoted at £5 7s' 6d a ton, and July-August-Sep-tember ,'s at £5 17s 6d a ton, with practically no buyers in each case.
