FRUIT BARROWS.
APPLICATIONS HELD OVER.
Next meeting of the City Council is likely to see another len,gthy discussion on the licensing of fruit barrows, Cr. J. W. Beanland having given notice of motion that the resolution passed by the Council on Monday evening in favour of granting permits be rescinded. In view of the notice of motion the City Council will not issue any licenses at present, until it has been disposed of. The By-laws Committee had a threehours ' meeting yesterday afternoon, and consideration of the six applications received was postponed. Conferences are being held between the growers and retailers, with representatives of the City Council present, with a view to overcoming the difficulties that have arisen.
A general meeting of members of the Christchurch Citizens' Association will bo held in the Chamber of Commerce Hall on Monday evening to discuss the question of the City Council's decision to grant permits to fruit barrow men in the City.
