QUEEN'S VAUDEVILLE TRIALS

Tho Thursday night vaudeville trials at the Queen's Theatre remain firmly in favour with patrons o£ the theatre. Last evening* there was a full house when the trials were continued, and even the most amateurish performers received a good-humoured reception, at times touched with irony, from the audience. From a large number of competitors the following were acclaimed successful by popular vote: —Children's section, Miss Taarand; men's section, Mr. Aleyne; woman's section, Miss Esdane, with Mr H. Egan as partner.

( "ELIJAH." ■ ——♦— — BY COMBINED CHOIR

A very appropriate addition to the several very fine programmes already Riven by varioub musical organisations iu Christchurch during the past few weeks is tho rendering of Mendelssohn's magnificent ora-torio, "Elijah,"- by the Combined Choir, on December 13th and 14th.

Much time, has been spent by the choir in preparation of this great work, and it can be confidently expected by musical patrons in Christchurch •.that this already popular organisation,' under the condnctorship. of Mr V. C. Peters, with Air Melville'Lawry at the organ, will give a very creditable rendering. The soprano solo part will be taken caro of by Madarn6 AVinnie Fraser, already well and popularly known to Christchurch audiences. The contralto and tenor parts have been entrusted to Miss Alice Vinsen and Air L. C. Quane, respectively, both of Christehurch. The part of the bass singer, on whom much responsibility lies, will be sung by Mr L. Craig, a singer of much .experience, from Timani. The performance will be [riven in the Oxford terraco Baptist Church.
