ITAWKE CUP. NELSON V. MARLBOROUGH. (TRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGHAM.) BLENHEIM, Docembor 8. The Hawke Cup preliminary match, Marlborough v. Nelson, was commenced to-day. After making an excellent start, Marlborough went to pieces, their total score being 177. M. Neal was unlucky in being run out when well set with 37 to his credit. R. Cragg made a useful 20. Bowling for Nelson. A. Newman took three wickets for 32, J. Newmnn two for 42. Taylor three for 38, and Kinzett one for 21. Nelßon could do no better against the bowling of O'Connor, who took seven wickets for 48, and Henderson two for 23, their total score being only 3 36, of which Kinzett made 50, Coombes 34, Taylor 16, and R. C. Eden 12. Marlborough in their second innings had lost two wickets for 13 when stumps were drawn. MANAWATU BEAT RANGITIKEI. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) PALMERSTON NORTH, December 8. In the eliminating round of the Hawke Cup competition, Manawatu defeated Rangitikei to-day by ten wickets. Cameron (Rangitikei) 119, and Gallichan (Manawatu) 85 not out, made the highest scores.
