(BRITISH omCIAL WIBELEBB.)
RUGBY, December 6.
In .he House of Gommona the UnderSecretary for the Dominions was asked whether he was aware. that an Economic Commission appointed by the Japanese Government had. recently visited Kenya and Uganda, with the object of extending Japanese trade in those colonies; andi having regard to the loan commitments of this country, whether he wo'ild devise measures to safeguard British export trade to East Africa against the competition of Japan and other countries.
Captain the Hon. W. G. A. OrmsbyGore replied that he was aware of the Japanese Commission having visited Kenya and Uganda. The British Government waß anxious to foster British export trade to the territories concerned, but it must be borne in mind that it would be inconsistent with international treaties to extend any preferential treatment to goods of British origin imported into those territories.
