PROGRESS LEAGUE.

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The executive of the Canterbury Progress Leaguo met last night, Mr J. E. Strachan presiding. Mr F. \V. Freeman, of tho Canterbury Automobile Association, was briefly welcomed by the chairman. The Reefton Progressive League wrote seeking co-operation in urging upon the Government tho desirability of making a road giving access from North Canterbury to Maruia Springs, over the Lewis Pass. The organiser, Mr P. R. Olimie, said that the League had considered the matter before, and concluded that tho coßt of such a road would be too heavy for the League conscientiously to recommend it. Mr F. W. Freeman said that at present, owing to the inconvenience of getting through the Otira tunnel, many North Island motorists who made the trip to the Glacier cut Christchurch out of their itinerary. The proposed road might obviate this. _ It was decided to receive the letter, and to invite the Reefton Progress League to forward all available information concerning the matter, when it would receivo favourable consideration.
