THE SHOW.
SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENTS. Several matters relating to the past Royal Show and to future Metropolitan Shows were discussed at yesterday's meeting of the General Committee of the Canterbury A. and P. Association. Mr R. E. Alexander said that instead of referring suggestions to the various iub-committees it would be better to set up a special committee to take the whole management and organisation of the Show into consideration.
On Mr Alexander's motion, seconded by Mr H. E. Peryman, it was decided that the president (Mr E. Hay), the vice-president (Mr H. E. Finchani), and the chairmen of the sub-committees be a special committee to consider and report on the management and organisation of tho Show. Some Suggestions. Mr D. W. Westenra made several suggestions regarding matters of detail. In the pony class, not exceeding 14 hands 2 inches, he suggested that the ponies should be ridden by children of a specified age, in order to encourage the younger generation. Regarding the parade he said some on the grandstand had been unable to see the dogs; he suggested that the dogs should be taken further back. If it was the case that the same animal secured his champion award in the saddle and in the harness classes, he thought it should be made impossible for this to occur in the future. Boxes for light horses were needed. At Timaru exhibitors were given a box in which horse and gear could be, padlocked. These matters will bo considered by the sub-committees concerned. Traffic Block. The Chief City Traffic Inspector (Mr H. Macintosh) wroto that much congestion was caused at the motor vehicle entrance, south of the main entrance to the Show Grounds on Lincoln road, during the Royal Show, owing to the Association's attendants holding up tho vehicle traffic at the entrance, thus blocking through traffic along Lincoln road on Thursday and Friday mornings. He asked that arrangements be made to have a clear run from the road into the grounds at the next show, and so prevent this hold up. Mr R. W. Lochhead said that the blockage was not caused by cars coing to the Show.
It was decided to refer the matter to tho Grounds Committee, Mr McGillivray and Mr Macintosh to be asked to confer with the committee. Marshal's Services Recognised. Mr Westenra referred to the lengthy service (21 years) of Mr C. J. Craddock as a marshal at the Show, and on his motion, seconded by Mr Rennie, it was decided to elect Mr Craddock a life member of the Association. Implements. The Implement Committee reported that at a meeting held on the Show Grounds during the Show, it was decided to allow the judges to allot 10 silver medkls in place of the four as stated in the catalogue. The report was received.
