COUNTY COUNCILS.
SELWYN. The monthly meeting of the Selwyn County Council was held on Monday. Present: Crs. F. J. Andrews (in the chair), T. E. Pearson, W. Gilmour, W. Stone, T. D. Jarman, G. Hall, N. Brown, G. Hight, and W, Inch. The engineer reported that the forming, grading, and patching of Rakaia Bridgo road had. been completed and tho work of reforming Glenthorne road was well forward. A start had been made patching and breaking oversized stones on Wairiri road.
The dork's action id soliciting the county's Parliamentary representative's opposition : to granting more than 8 per cent.of the petrol tax tij. boroughs was approved. The Canterbury Progress League forwarded copies of a. report on the present and future'electric power supply. , It was reported that a good supply of water had been maintained on all the race heads during the past month. Names of a large number of ratepayers who had failed to clean' their races were tabled, and it was resojved that unless these races received immediate attention the Council will take proceedings against the ratepayers. It was decided to prosecute owners of stock straying od thfi roads. At a special meeting of the Council Cr. Pearson.moved, seconded by Cr. Gilmour, that the portion of the Darfield-Arundel road from Glentunnel bridge to Rakaia bridge be declared a county road. Cr. Stone moved, seconded by Cr.. G. Hall, ; that the following portion of a special order be rescinded: "That the Bluff road from Selwyn river, Coalgate bridge, to 'Please Shut the Gate' be a main road." The motions were carried. -
